The Myblue Hotel is situated in a splendid and unique scenario in one of the island’s most beautiful spots, Nungwi, famous for its sunsets and for its sea. It is about 50 km from the Stone Town airport and is easily accessible at about 60 km of transfer to the asphalt roads.

The Resort reasserts the unmistakeable “sophisticated simplicity” of the famous Mosquito Blue Hotels and was built respecting the environment it is surrouinded by to guarantee an excellent service.

The island is developed in longitudinal manner and embraces an elegant and original tone to allow for a relaxing and peaceful vacation. The management of the Hotel guarantees an excellent standard service. The restaurant offers Italian and international cuisine. In front of the pool, near the main bar, there is a relaxing covered area with a library, table games and an internet point free of charge.

Check in for your flight to the Maldives departing Johannesburg at 13h00 arriving Male at 23h20. The boat transfer to the resort does not operate during the night, so you will collect your luggage on arrival and transfer to Hulhule Island Hotel at the airport.

Zanzibar Area Guide

The island of Zanzibar is in the Indian Ocean, 50km off the Eastern coast of Africa, a few degrees South of the Equator. It joined Tanzania in 1964, known as Tanganyika at the time, and since then it has been a part of what is now known as the United Republic of Tanzania. However, it has its own Government, Parliament and President.

The largest town is Zanzibar, which includes the ancient part Stone Town. Among the many islands forming its archipelago, Unguja and Pemba are the most extended and inhabited. The language spoken here is Ki-Swhaili, a result of the contact between the Bantu and the Middle Eastern civilizations, declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1960. English is also spoken, along with French and Italian. The most common religion is Islam and a very small minority of people are either Christians or Indus.

The island of Zanzibar is an extraordinarily beautiful place from the naturalistic point of view and was, for centuries, a crossroads for international trade between Eastern Africa, the Indian Ocean, China and Europe. This has turned the island into a place where different cultures cohabit harmonically.

Local Attractions

Stone Town

With visits to the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People's Palace), Dr Livingstone's House and the Arab Fort amongst others, it is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar. You will see Zanzibar's bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques. A trip to the site of Sultan Barghash's harem at Marahubi should also be included and rounds off an insight into Zanzibar's huge history and vibrant culture. Stone Town has some excellent gifts shops with plenty of souvenirs and handicrafts to choose from.

Spice Plantations

The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and many other spices which brought the Sultans of Oman and the beginnings of the infamous slave trade. They can be seen in the plantations just outside Zanzibar town, and a good tour includes opportunities to dazzle the senses with fresh spices. A detailed description is given about a variety of spices, and their uses in cooking and cosmetics. Visitors will be fascinated by the sheer number of spices produced and their incredible value for many ailments. This is also the cheapest place to purchase spices and spice oils.

Jozani Forest

The Jozani Natural Forest Reserve is located in the central east region of Zanzibar island and is home to the rare Red Colobus Monkey (pictured opposite), which is endemic to Zanzibar. These monkeys are full of character, and roam freely. They can also be seen at very close quarters just outside the reserve's perimeter and are incredibly photogenic. Jozani is home to other species including Syke's monkey's, small buck and bushpigs. The elusive Zanzibar leopard (last sited several years ago) is said to feed here at night - perhaps this is why the reserve is only open during the day. Jozani has an excellent nature trail and the guides are well trained and informative.

North Coast

Tours to the unspoilt north coast always end up at Ras Nungwi, a sleepy fishing village on the northern tip of Zanzibar island. It is the dhow building capital of Zanzibar, so you will be able to see the traditional methods of dhow construction in action. This area of Zanzibar has some fantastic beaches and nearby coral reefs which are ideal for diving and snorkelling. The local villagers have built a turtle sanctuary where injured turtles and other marine animals are nursed back to health before being released back into the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Kizimkazi Mosque & Dolphin Tour

Situated on the southern point of the island, Kizimkazi fishing village is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins which can often be sighted following a short boat trip from the village. If you are lucky, you may be able to swim quite close to the dolphins which can be a very rewarding experience. Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th century mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa, and is thus worth a visit for both natural and cultural reasons.

Prison Island

Once the site of a gaol for misbehaving slaves, the island lies just off the old stone town. It is fringed with a beautiful coral reef, ideal for snorkelling, and has a lovely white beach for sun-bathing.

It is also home to a family of giant tortoises, imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. This island is ideal for a day-trip with refreshments available throughout the day. It also has a small restaurant where you can enjoy freshly caught fish.

White Rose Accommodation

30 large rooms in which, 16 are “Sea View”, 8 “Bungalows” and 6 “Garden” with a makuti roof and are all positioned in the wooded garden and in front on the sea. Every room is furnished in a Zanzibar decor and has a double bed with a mosquito net, a wardrobe and a mirror, a luggage holder, a fan, air conditioning and a telephone. The bungalows also have a living area equipped with a table and chairs, while you can find a large typical “Pili Pili” sofa bed in the garden rooms for 4 people ( in the two double beds) and for one child ( Pili Pili). For those who desire to to have the beach within reach, the “Sea View” rooms are available, and are just a few footsteps from the Ocean.

The management taken care by The Ora Group Hotels guarantees excellent quality. The meeting point of the Resort is the fascinating living area where you can find a satellite television, where you can relax by just simply reading if you do not want to take part in he group activities.

The restaurant with the pool view, has a buffet service, offering local and Italian cuisine, characterized mainly by fresh home made pasta, grilled fish, sweets and an abundance of tropical fruit cut up at the moment requested. Every week the restaurant has a Zanzibar theme dinner and a gala dinner. Moreover, it is possibile to reserve a romantic lobster dinner (with anadditional cost involved). The three connecting pools, in which one is dedicated for the children, are situated in the large garden in front of the seaside. You may also sip cocktails at the pool bar while bathing in the pool.

There are other two bars available, the first one is in the reception area at the beach, where you may also drink delicious cocktails listening to local music in the background. Internet is available free of charge in the hotel in the designated areas. While paying, you may also find the boutique, massage center, telephone and laundry area. All major credit cards are accepted (with a commission charge). The Resort Staff organizes typical Zanzibar dinners, shows and different entertainment during the week.

The forest holds another secret, the lost town of Gedi, a deserted trading Swahili town hidden deep in the forests, whose winding passages and crumbling walls tell of a long and mysterious past. Walk through the Forest, explore the mangroves by boat, dive on the reef or try your hand at big game fishing. At the North coast you have all these choices and more, with the space and freedom to relax, unwind, and soak up the atmosphere.

Getting Around - The gateway to the North Coast is Mombasa, although some visitors fly directly to Malindi. The Coastal highway runs north of Mombasa all the way to Kenya’s northern frontier. Driving your own car or hired car as far as Malindi is very easy.

There are regular buses and matatus along the North coast. Many hotels and resorts in this area have Mombasa shuttles or can arrange vehicle transfers. Private taxis from Mombasa will also take you to the North Coast beaches for an agreed fare.

Malindi airport has daily scheduled flights to Mombasa, Nairobi and Lamu. The airport also serves Private Charters. Regular buses and Matatus service the North Coast Highway. Services are less regular north of Malindi. Taxis can be found in any town, or at most hotels or resorts.

The northern Drakensberg mountain range provides a majestic backdrop to the largest private game lodge in the Greater Kruger National Park region. Kapama River Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve, and presents the perfect blend between luxurious safari accommodation and a generous bed capacity of 64 bedrooms. Although large, it is so stylish and roomy and beautifully positioned along a dry riverbed, that guests fall in love with it.

Each spacious room at Kapama River Lodge features a full en-suite bathroom and terrace with uninterrupted views into the leafy-green Big 5 game reserve. The central guest entertainment areas include a large rim-flow swimming pool with sun umbrellas and recliners for lazy afternoons. The long L-shaped relaxation lounge and bar under a double-volume thatch, curves around the pool and on either side is a huge double-sided fireplace creating a wondrous open-plan yet cosy atmosphere. The Rhino Boma dining area with tables arranged under a low thatch in a horseshoe curve, has a central open space where a roaring outdoor fire gives a glow to evening meals. Kapama River Lodge is so named because it lies in a curve of the Kapama River, which is usually dry but floods from time to time and can reach the steps of the lodge swimming pool. A small permanent water source lies just beyond Kapama River Lodge perimeter fence attracting animals like antelopes, elephant and buffalo. Watch this truly African spectacle from the warm blue water of the big rim flow swimming pool, or relax in the shade of an umbrella on loungers around the pool.

For those occasions when you really want to catch up on world news on cable TV, watch a sports game or entertain the children with a wildlife DVD, pop down to the Kapama River Lodge Media Room. This area is also adapted for small conferences of 20 delegates or less, with breakaway rooms seating 8-10 people.

The Lounge
African pots, stools and artefacts grace the illuminated recessed alcoves in the L-shaped lounges and bar of Kapama River lodge. Chairs are softly upholstered in reds and golds and the high yellow thatch reflects a warm light back into the beamed lounges. A wide chimney divides each lounge area, and the dual-facing fireplaces throws light and warmth into all areas.

Wooden-framed glass concertina doors can be pulled closed to keep it cosy or opened up completely for views beyond the rim-flow pool into the sandy riverbed. A special feature of Kapama River Lodge is the straw-clad plaster walls, helping to seamlessly merge the inside with the outside.

Fine Dining
Kapama River Lodge extends itself with three different dining venues:

Rhino Boma is the most popular buffet dinner venue where a delicious variety of dishes is eaten under an open-sided thatch around a crackling fire.

The Riverbed is a romantic place to dine, with a star-studded African night sky above you and the sand of the dry riverbed beneath you.

Siyatla Lounge is newly built and perfect for large groups, formal functions, product launches and conferences. It has its own bar and lounge with two huge fireplaces with chimneys extending up to the open-beam thatched roof. Huge wizened leadwood trunks create a truly African feature inside the hall. Concertina glass panel doors open the space completely to let the sounds and smells of Africa in.

Dishes are prepared with seasonal local produce and fresh herbs grown at Kapama River Lodge. Ethnic dishes and accompaniments like mealie pap (African-style polenta) and chakalaka (a hot and spicy relish) are used to give the taste of Africa, but more familiar food is also on the menu. Safari game drives have the habit of giving you a raging appetite so blow the diet and dig into specialist dishes like warthog stew and kudu casserole, impala sausages and mild oxtail curries. Fish eaters get an option on the menu and vegetarians are well catered for with fresh African vegetables like sweet potatoes baked in their skin, wild spinach and feta cheese, spiced zulu cabbage and steamed gem squash.

Kapama Wine Cellar
Kapama River lodge has a wine cellar worth boasting about. Three big plate glass windows allow you to look into the perfectly humidified environment storing more than 600 bottles of fine wine. Apart from some French Champagne, all the wines and Cape Classique sparkling are from South Africa's finest Cape vineyards; Meerlust Rubicon, Veenwouden and Boschkloof Merlot, Graham Beck Shiraz, Nitida pinotage and fine vintage Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc.

Kapama Suites
Kapama River Lodge features 40 spacious air-conditioned suites, with modern yet distinctly African furnishings and log-beam ceilings under a golden thatch. Step onto your private balcony with an iced drink from your mini bar, and while away free time looking lazily into the bush for animals that may pass by.

CHOBE NATIONAL PARK The Chobe National Park covers an area of approximately 10 700 square kilometers. Established in 1961 with the first Game Warden, Mr. Pat Hepburn, appointed in April 1962. It is home to the largest concentration of Elephants in Africa, estimated at 45 000. Indigenous to the park is the puku and Chobe bushbuck. Other game such as lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, kudu, giraffe and an abundant bird life of approximately 450 species, add theatre to the magical kingdom. Serondela Camp, 10 kms west of the park gate, is Chobe's most accessible campsite. According to game drivers, Serondela was once an inhabited village, which was uprooted and shifted to Kasane when Chobe became a national park. By day, campers are under constant surveillance by cheeky baboons, who long ago learnt that all the best pickings come from tents and backpacks. One of the best ways to enjoy the riverfront is to take a river trip in the late afternoon, when the hippos amble onto dry land and the riverfront fills with elephants heading down for a drink and a romp in the water. A Chobe visit will probably entail a cruise or game drive, during which you will have an excellent chance of observing lions and cheetah, and by day, the water is full of hippos, which submerge at dawn and emerge at dusk. Buffalo are present in their thousands, and amid the scrub live numerous giraffes and zebra.

Day 1 to 3 - The Chobe

Upon your arrival at Livingstone or Victoria Falls Airport, you will be met and welcomed by a representative from Chobe Game Lodge. You will be transferred by road to the Lodge, where you will spend two nights. Day 3 to 5 - The Savute

Savute Safari Lodge has 12 twin-bedded luxury wood, thatch and glass safari suites, well-suited to the hot and dry conditions. The suites have spacious interiors, glass sliding doors, private viewing decks and en-suite bathrooms.
Facilities at Savute Safari Lodge include a lounge, library and cocktail bar, which are situated in the exquisite thatch and timber main building. Day 5 to 7 - The Okavango Delta

After an early morning activity and breakfast at Savute Safari Lodge, you will connect with a light aircraft for your flight to Xugana Island Lodge, where you will stay for two nights.Xugana Lagoon is in the permanent Delta, a world of crystal clear waterways winding through vast reed and papyrus beds and opening onto tranquil lagoons. Located in a private concession, Xugana is a true water -based camp.Xugana Island Lodge has only eight chalets which are raised on wooden decks. Each chalet has en-suite bathrooms and private decks which overlook the lagoon. Xugana Lagoon offers magnificent African sunsets.
The lodge has an open boma and outdoor dining area. The lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under an Ebony and African Mangosteen tree canopy. The swimming pool, in the centre of the island is a perfect place to relax.
After a delicious lunch, you depart on your afternoon game activity. Enjoy a boat cruise and even try your hand at some fishing for bream and tiger fish. Day 7 to 9 - The Kalahari and Makgadikgadi

Enjoy a morning activity before departing on your scheduled charter flight to the desert location of Leroo La Tau, where you will spend two nights. Leroo La Tau is built on 15m high cliffs above the dry Boteti River which gives guests opportunities for spectacular wildlife sightings from this raised vantage point.The main reception and lounge areas sit high on the cliffs overlooking the Boteti Riverbed and the sweeping scrub and grasslands of the Makgadikgadi.
Luxury glass and thatch chalets on individual raised wooden platforms provide unsurpassed views over the dry riverbed and grassy plains.

Travel between lodges

Flying is an integral part of your Botswana safari and is a unique way to experience the area you are visiting from the air. Part of the experience of visiting Desert & Delta Safaris’ lodges, is the journey between camps.
We offer a fully integrated private air charter service, operated by our sister company Safari Air. Safari Air operates single engine Airvan’s, Cessna 206s, 207s, 210s, Cessna Caravans. We have a compliment of pilots originating from all over the world including countries such as New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom and Botswana. All our pilots hold Botswana Commercial Pilots Licenses together with Commercial Pilots Licenses for their country of origin.
Unless you have booked a private air charter, your flight transfers will be booked as a "seat on plane" basis. Flight times are arranged according to each day's requirements and to fit in with activities, thus the plane may pick up and drop off other guest’s en-route to your destination. Times therefore vary from day to day and will be communicated to you the afternoon before departure. Flights to Kasane for the Chobe lodges and for Victoria Falls/Livingstone depart early to meet the scheduled road transfers. Therefore early morning activities for guests departing on these flights are curtailed.
Private charters can be arranged, in which case you will be the only guests in the plane and you may specify your departure times. We are happy to quote separately for this.

At the lodges our vehicles either open Toyota Land Cruisers carrying a maximum of 7 people or Land Rovers carrying a maximum of 9 people. All Land Cruisers have individual buckets seats while the Land Rover have bench seats. All vehicles have a removable canvas roof which is important for the hot African days. Smoking is not permitted in any of our safari vehicles, but is allowed in sections of the lodges.
Safari activities
Chobe Game Lodge offers game drives conducted in open four-wheel drive vehicles, normally early morning and late afternoon. There are also excursions in motorboats and sunset cruises on the Chobe River. Professional guides or a environmentalist offer star gazing on the stargazing deckSavute Safari Lodge offers daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles in the Savute area of the Chobe National Park, including the Savute Marsh. A visit to Gubatsa Hills and ancient San rock paintings is also available.Xugana Island Lodge offers Mokoro trips in eco-friendly dugout canoes built to the traditional design, boat safaris to lagoons and islands and wilderness walks. Bream and Tiger Fishing can be excellent at certain times of the year. Birdwatching is excellent throughout the year.Leroo La Tau offers day and night game drives in open 4 x 4 safari vehicles.
Guides and Staff
Desert & Delta Safaris were established in Botswana in 1982 and today we are fortunate to have many long-serving staff in our employ. All of our guides are local Batswana, recruited from nearby villages. As many of them have grown up in wilderness areas, they have an intimate knowledge of the wildlife and ecology of Botswana. This morning you will transfer back to the airport to check in for your flight to the Nelspruit. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the lodge. DAY 7 – 9: CAPE TOWN / THE LONG BEACH

This morning you will be transferred back to the Nelspruit airport for you flight to Johannesburg. On arrival in JNB you will collect your luggage and check in for your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival in Cape Town you will collect your rental car to drive yourselves to The Long Beach.
The Long Beach is situated in the picturesque lobster-fishing village of Kommetjie, a short thirty-minute drive from Cape Town. It is truly a special place to stay, offering a rare and rewarding alternative, romantic hideaway. The beach, literally on your doorstep, is eight kilometers of fine, white powdered sand, so pristine that it alone will leave you breathless.
Each of The Long Beach's six luxury suites was designed with comfort in mind - to make the most discerning guest feel relaxed and thoroughly pampered. Each suite is adorned with colonial-style lime washed wooden shutters, which, when opened depict spectacular views of the crystal blue Atlantic Beach and the pure white sands of Kommetjie's famous, Long Beach.

I’ve never been to Kenya and my knowledge of the country was limited to media publications, which mostly focused on safari’s to the Masai Mara. This is my experience of this wonderful destination.

We were booked on a flight at 00h40, but the plane was delayed so we only departed at “ridiculous o’ clock” (03h45am) from OR Tambo Airport. We flew with Kenya Air, a very good airline, which served great meals and lots of drinks on the way to Nairobi. There were plenty of seats open so I could make myself comfortable and catch a few hours sleep along the way. The flight was under 6 hours and we touched down in Nairobi just after 11 o’ clock (Time zone: GMT + 1 hour). After border post formalities, we made our way to the domestic departures for a 45 minute flight to Malindi. Upon arrival we've been met by friendly faces in the national greeting “Jambo” (hallo). Being a coastal town close to the equator means tropical weather. We left a cold Johannesburg at barely 5 degrees C and arrived in Malindi where the winter temperature seldom drops below 25C. The Kenyan people are extremely friendly. We took a short transfer from the airport to Tropical Village, a Plan Hotel resort, located in an area known as Malindi Beach 1.

Tropical Village is true to its name- sultry with plenty of palm trees, landscaped gardens, typical Swahili architecture and Morocan décor. On arrival we checked in and received welcome cocktails…the first of many during our stay. I was a taken by the friendliness of the staff – jambo-jambo and karibo (you are welcome) was the lingo everywhere we went.

Malindi Beach was so different than what I imaged it – Kenya is world apart from everything I know in South Africa. As the sun set, more cocktails were served and we sat at the bar meeting new people from around the world.

Our first night in Malindi was rounded off by a Masai performance at the entertainment area in the resort. Back in our room we laid in a king size four poster bed, wrapped in a mosquito net, listening to the sea breeze rustling through the palm trees. This is the kind of stuff, romantic holidays are made of.

The next day we explored Malindi Village. The resort arranged a Village tour and we jumped into a mini bus. The streets were busy with busses, bicycles, cars, trucks, tuc-tuc’s (three wheeler motorbike taxis), pedestrians, coats and chickens …”the world and his wife was in town” (a description used by Charley Boorman in his book The Long Way Down – the book I was reading for the holiday). Even though the streets were packed to capacity, nobody lost their temper…”hakuna matata” – not a problem, is the outlook on every aspect of life here. Malindi Village is characterized by Arabic architecture and many small shops and informal markets. It is a colorful town with a fusion of Swahili and Italian culture. On tour we stopped at an informal market where eager sellers met us with friendly “jambo” greetings and traditional curios ranging from leather products and creative wood crafts to interesting fabrics. Price was negotiable and sellers liked to bargain on every item. Later the day we stopped at a typical Tavern for a taste of the local drink – palm wine. It is easily the most revolting thing I have ever drunk but at KES350 (less than US$1) per bottle, it is popular with the locals. On route we visited the Gedi Ruines, Watamu beach and a wood craft factory where local tradesmen hand crafted curios. At the hand craft showroom I could not resist buying more curios.

The next few days we spend lazing on the beach, the stress on normal life evaporating into to the clear blue sky over head. At Tropical Village there are plenty to do – morning stretching by the pool, aqua aerobics, archery, beach volleyball, dance lessons and many more. The resort sports a PADI centre and non-motorized water sports. In the evenings there is entertainment (“animazion” as it is called) which includes games, cabaret and African dancing…never a dull moment. The open lounge offered a relaxing atmosphere where you can just sit enjoy a few drinks or mingle with the other guests.

As an extra surprise, my husband arranged a romantic private beach dinner for two. It was picture perfect, with a wooden gazebo draped in soft white linen floating in the breeze and romantic background music against the brake of the waves just a few steps away. Our waiter served us wine, delectable seafood platters and decadent desert. It was a very special occasion.

When in Kenya one has to include a safari as part of your stay – the perfect beach and bush destination.

We departed at mid-morning from Malindi and made our way inland. We passed several villages and a natural forest, before the landscape started to change to a drier savanna. Tsavo East National Park is located about 2 and a half hours drive from Malindi. We were again welcomed by friendly staff and our ranger joined us for a late lunch before we embarked the game viewer for a game drive. The ranger was very knowledgeable and good in spotting animals, birds and plants along the way. We saw huge buffalo herds and elephants at the river. Back at the lodge we enjoyed a hearty dinner and we chatted to the other guests, who came to Galana River Lodge for bird hunting the next day. We had an early night, as we planned a morning game drive, starting at 05h30. The next day’s game viewing was exciting. We spotted hyena, lynx, bat eared foxes and jackal, animals which we do not often see in South Africa (perhaps because I usually do not get up at ridiculous hours in the morning for game viewing). By mid-day we returned to the lodge with great photographs of elephants, a variety of antelope and birds. We unfortunately did not see lion or leopard, but the experience was still satisfying. After freshening up and a quick lunch, we made our way back to Malindi.

All to soon our stay in Kenya has come to an end. We had one last night in this idyllic setting and we tried to make the best…but we were very tired after the safari and went to bed quite early.

Waking up I had a stone in my heart. I have fallen hopelessly in love with Kenya, but I had to return to work, home, traffic, bills and the normality’s of life. As we transferred to Mombasa for our flight back to South Africa, I was already busy in my head, planning our next visit to this amazing part of the world.

Nestled among the foothills of the southern Drakensberg, this scenic mountain resort offers the ideal getaway for those in search of nature’s beauty and peace. With Lake Madingofani at its feet, Castleburn lures eland, reedbuck and numerous bird species to this peaceful setting.

The architecturally designed cottages were thatched and built with hand-hewn local stone, to stand inconspicuous against their natural milieu. There are studio 4-sleepers, 1 bedroom 4-sleepers, 3 bedroom 6-sleepers or 2 bedroom 6-sleepers.
Each cottage has a comfortable lounge, dining room, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and braai area on the patio. There are heating systems in the bedroom and bathrooms and a stone fireplace for extra comfort and atmosphere. Some units even have a jacuzzi.

Whale Rock Lodge have 11 en-suite rooms – 3 with king size beds, 2 with queen size beds and 6 with three-quarter twin beds. All 11 rooms have full bathrooms with bath and separate shower. All the rooms are equipped with TV & MNet, fans, telephones, hairdryers, heaters, clock radios and electric blankets. Each room has a sitting area and a separate entrance onto the garden.

Whale Rock is 3km from the centre of the village, 6km from the Hermanus Golf Club and 15km from Arabella Golf Club.
